Sustaining Safe Neighborhoods, Roadmap to Safer Communities

Philadelphia has seen a spike in gun violence among school-aged children in recent years. Despite the efforts from city programs & initiatives and law enforcement agencies to address this issue, the problem remains a significant concern and more needs to be done to address the underlying causes of this issue. In order to address this issue, it is important to focus on both prevention and intervention. Prevention strategies include increasing access to mental health services for youth, providing education and resources to families, and increasing access to safe and supportive environments for youth. Intervention strategies include providing support to victims of gun violence, increasing access to trauma-informed care, and providing resources to those affected by gun violence.

The gun violence has a negative impact on the mental and physical well-being of children and can lead to long-term trauma. Additionally, it can also disrupt their education and lead to poor academic performance. It is important for community leaders, educators, and law enforcement to work together to address this issue and find ways to prevent gun violence among school-aged children in Philadelphia. It’s important to build strong community engagement and partnerships to build safe & healthier neighborhoods.
